An Outsider's Perspective
Roy Johnson founded Cart IoT in November 2024 after nearly a decade as a volunteer firefighter/EMT and a career shaping IoT standards at the highest level. Living in a golf cart community where carts are primary transportation, he saw a gap: millions of carts plugged in every night with chargers that had zero intelligence — no monitoring, no remote control, no way to know what was happening.
Roy's background is in defense, security, and embedded systems — not golf carts. He served on the boards of the Connectivity Standards Alliance (creators of Zigbee and Matter) and the FiRa Consortium (UWB positioning), working alongside some of the largest technology companies in the world to shape the future of connected devices. He brought that depth to an industry that had been overlooked.
The result is CHARGER SAFETY — the first smart charging platform purpose-built for golf carts. Remote monitoring and control from any device, configurable charge alerts, and automatic daily power cycling that keeps batteries topped off without manual intervention. It installs in minutes, connects to the cloud, and gives cart owners full visibility from anywhere.
Where We Are Going

2.3 million carts in the U.S., most with chargers that have no intelligence whatsoever. We are bringing smart charging to this massive installed base through our growing dealer network.
Micro-Mobility Tomorrow
The same charging challenges exist for e-bikes, scooters, and LSVs. Our platform is designed to scale across vehicle types and form factors as the market evolves.
